Bank worker David Brown is celebrating this week after he moved into his first home. The 25 year old bought the property in Dobson Close, High Spen, for £129,995, through a shared equity scheme with Dunelm Homes.
David who works for the Halifax put forward a £6,000 deposit while Dunelm fronted a further 15%.
"I didn't think I was going to get a home as quickly as I did, mainly because of the deposit." said David. "I found out about the scheme when I visited the showroom at the High Spen development. It's great because the property is still all mine, you are just borrowing the 15%, interest free for 10 years."
Commenting on the Government's housing strategy, David said: "I think anything that is going to help a first-time buyer is fantastic."
